Home Health Health Cardiovascular system Hypertension: Hypertension Blood pressure is recorded with two values. If the blood pressure is 120 above 80, it is denoted by 120/80. The first number is systolic pressure - upper limit- (systole). It is the pressure in the arteries when the heart pumps blood. The second number is the diaphragmatic pressure (diastolic). It is the pressure in the arteries when the heart relaxes between two beats and fills with blood. If the blood pressure is higher than 140/90 at rest, high blood pressure is discussed. Symptoms: People with this disease rarely realize it, about half of them usually have no symptoms. Hypertension is therefore sometimes referred to as "silent death", but along with smoking and high cholesterol, it is one of the leading causes of atherosclerosis.
